The Arkansas–Texas football rivalry, also known as the The Big Shootout, is an American college football rivalry between the Arkansas Razorbacks football team of the University of Arkansas and the Texas Longhorns football team of the University of Texas dating back to 1894.[1] Texas and Arkansas' most recent meeting was in September 2008 in which Texas dominated Arkansas 52–10.[2] Texas leads the all-time series 56–21.[3][4]

Old Southwest Conference rivals Texas and Arkansas first met in 1894 in a 54–0 blowout by Texas. The two programs have met 77 times and have had many big games which includes the 1969 Game of the Century which eventually led to the Longhorns' 1969 national championship.[5] Although The Big Shootout has not been regularly played since Arkansas's departure from the Southwest Conference to the Southeastern Conference in 1991, which consequently sent Texas to the Big 12 Conference in 1994, many Longhorn and Razorback fans consider this an important rivalry.
